Exploring Sculpture

I feel that my work is often two dimensional, I use a lot of text and digital work and even when I do make large work it's prints. I wanted to create something that is more tangible and tactile. I found myself growing increasingly inspired by online ceramic artists and really wanted to try out the medium. So I have drawn some sketches of pieces I'd like to experiment with. I think the most difficult part, apart from the technical skill, will be how I translate my ideas from words on my notes app to physical sculptures. I want this work to be more fun and playful. I feel there's a freedom in trying something new, even if it doesn't work out.

I am excited for the themes of these pieces, being very honest about my mental health and also the fat-phobia I experience. I've touched on my mental health in previous works but fat-phobia is something I haven't even approached. I think it's such a sore spot for me and there's so much shame tied to it, that it feels too private, which is exactly why I should explore it in my work. I know, sadly, there's plenty of other plus size people who can relate to these pieces and my experiences. I'm really excited to see where these themes go and how I can develop my messages.
